Newborn Photography

Newborn photoshoots can take up to 4 hours, but typically around 3 hours to complete. Babies at this age need plenty of time for feeding and settling. I like to ensure sessions are not rushed and there is plenty of time, so I will never book in more than one photoshoot each day. The day belongs to you and your baby!

Babies are ideally photographed between 4 and 10 days from birth, but any time withing the first 2 weeks. This is to ensure they are nice and sleepy for the naturally posed images. After the first two weeks, it is possible to achieve these ‘sleepy images’, but it can be a little harder to settle babies. At about 4 weeks some babies also develop a short period of baby acne. I have of course photographed many older babies. From around 3 months is a great age to photograph, if you miss the ‘newborn’ stage. They have a wonderful connection with the camera and it’s a wonderful time to capture those first smiles and toe grabs!

Yes of course!! All my newborn sessions include a family photoshoot and a few sibling shots. I just love to capture the connection between families when a precious new baby arrives. I usually recommend that siblings arrive at the studio for the second half of the photoshoot, as the first half focuses on baby, and younger siblings can become bored and restless. It also allows us to keep the studio a quiet calm environment for settling baby.

Unfortunately, as my studio is small, I need to restrict the number of adults in the studio to 2.

Don’t panic! Sometimes babies just don’t want to sleep. It happens, and usually we can still create beautiful memorable images of your babies first few days. On occasions, babies are for one reason or another, very unsettled. If this happens and I am unable to capture enough usable images of your baby, we can discuss arranging a reshoot on another day for no additional charge.

I always recommend booking your newborn photoshoot before as early into your pregnancy as possible to ensure availability and to avoid disappointment. I often have parents asking how this is possible without a confirmed arrival date.

Please don’t worry, I will pencil in your due date and once baby arrives, let me know and we will confirm an exact day within the first to weeks of babies arrival.
